Why Iraq Would Want To Buy Turkish Drones And Attack Helicopters

Iraq has reportedly expressed its interest in buying Turkish-built military hardware for the first time.

Speaking on Iraqi television after attending the International Defense Exhibition in Istanbul, Turkey, in August, Iraqi Defense Minister Juma Inad Saadoun reportedly said that Iraq had “reached a consensus” with Turkey concerning the purchase of that country’s Bayraktar TB2 drone. Saadoun also reportedly said that his government “intended” to purchase 12 T129 ATAK twin-engine, all-weather attack helicopters and sent a “request to buy” six of Turkey’s KORAL electronic warfare systems.
