Sussex’s nightlife just got a little safer! As part of their commitment to ensuring safety during the nighttime, Sussex Police have unveiled a new tool: a DJI Matrice 30 drone. But this isn’t just any drone. Fitted with advanced thermal imaging cameras, spotlights, and even a speaker, this police drone’s primary mission is to scan the area, particularly the beach, during Friday and Saturday nights. Its purpose? To detect vulnerable individuals, potential criminal activities, and collect necessary evidence.

Eyes in the Sky: The Drone’s Features

This innovative device takes surveillance to a new level, offering a bird’s eye view of areas typically challenging to monitor, like the beach. Two skilled operators handle the drone, working closely with officers on the ground who can swiftly respond to situations picked up by the drone’s camera.

As Superintendent Adele Tucknott points out, “It is an extra set of eyes in the sky that gives a completely new perspective.”…
