Moline Police Boost Safety With Drone Use At Mo.Live

In light of a recent change in state law, Moline Police are set to employ Drone Technology for increased safety at the upcoming Mo.Live event. The new legislation, Public Act 103-0101, signed by Gov. JB Pritzker on June 16, 2023, has given police the green light to use drones for monitoring special events. This move comes as a proactive response to the tragic events of July 4, 2022, in Highland Park, Illinois.
Mo.Live, scheduled from Thursday to Saturday, Aug. 24-26, will see these drones in action at two prominent locations – John Deere Commons on Thursday and the Vibrant Arena at The Mark for the next two days.
If you’re planning to attend, look out for signs at the main entrances. These will “inform the attendees that a drone may be used for the purpose of real-time monitoring of participant safety” and ensure everyone that all is in line with FAA safety rules.
The Moline police have access to a DJI Matrice 30T as well as a Lemur 2 from Brinc Drones.
