The Baltimore Police Department (BPD) is opening its doors to community input on a proposed policy to employ police drone technology for crime scene management and tactical operations. In an announcement made Wednesday, BPD outlined their plan to leverage drones in their Crime Scene Unit. This tech will allow investigators to acquire aerial shots of crime scenes to support both their investigations and court proceedings.

Beyond the forensic applications, drones are slated for use in tactical situations, offering a safer means of surveillance and suspect apprehension.

“Scenarios where a drone could be used include hostage rescues, police shootings, active shooters, arsons, high-risk raids, barricaded persons, and homicides,” the department said.
