With the expansion of drone applications across most sectors of industry, University of Houston-Clear Lake’s Pearland campus has created a customized training program.

“Energy and construction companies need drone pilots to do inspections and mapping,” said Lisa Gabriel, executive director for professional education and extended programs. “There is also a great need for pilots in police and public safety departments, the military, agriculture — they’re needed almost everywhere.”

In partnership with training company DartDrones, UHCL Pearland’s Drone Academy will offer basic flight training and test preparation Aug. 5-7 for those seeking FAA certification. The course costs $1,500.

Additional in-person courses include aerial mapping and modeling, public safety and emergency response and aerial inspection.
