A drone has been found in the search zone for two missing campers who vanished in the Victorian Alps almost a year ago.

Russell Hill and Carol Clay have not been heard from since March 20 last year, when Mr Hill stated via HF radio he was at Wonnangatta Valley.

Police confirmed a drone was handed into them over the weekend.

The new discovery could lead to a breakthrough in the missing persons case.

It is not yet known if the drone is the same one as Mr Hill’s missing DJI drone.

The drone will be examined to determine whether it is the camper’s missing drone and if it has any relevance to the investigation.

“We understand that this vehicle was parked near the long drop toilet, or the public toilet and a small suspension bridge over the one again a river, which is, is within fairly close proximity to where we know that Russell and Carol camped,” Detective Inspector Andrew Stamper said.
